Alpacas are a good addition to any small farm. They are easy keepers, they do not eat much, they are docile, they can be easily trained to a lead, they are fun for children and they provide great fiber.
We keep Huacaya (pronounced Wuh-kai-ya) alpacas. Huacaya alpacas are fluffy like teddy bears. Their fiber is dense and stands perpendicular to their body, much like would be seen in sheep. 80-90% of all alpacas are Huacaya. They are hardy and thus easier to keep healthy. Huacaya fiber is soft and easy to spin.
